A great deal is said today about the need for
engineers and for scientists, and the point of view is taken that if
you have better science courses and specialize sooner in the
scientific branches of knowledge, you are going to get better
scientists. I think that the best scientist is the best and most
creative thinker and the task of education is first of all to
educate human beings who then become scientists.

The Clover Hill Mixed-Age Kindergarten ![]() The Board of Trustees and The Clover Hill School community are pleased to announce that in September 2008 we will be opening a mixed-age Kindergarten for children aged 3 to 6 years old! This exciting beginning is the first phase of the School's long term vision to provide the many benefits of Waldorf Education to the children of lower Fairfield county. Your interest and involvement would be most welcome! Our school will be located at the Christ Episcopal Church, 2 Emerson Street in East Norwalk, Connecticut. We will be situated in the 700 sq. ft. Small Parish Hall and have use of a professional kitchen for bread backing and snack preparation. We will transform the beautiful, off-the-street play yard into a haven for curious and playful children. ![]() We are pleased to announce that Heather Porter has accepted our offer to be the lead Kindergarten teacher. Heather is a fully-trained and certified Waldorf early childhood teacher who graduated from Sunbridge College. She comes to us with extensive experience working with children 2-6 years old and their parents. She has been the lead teacher for a Waldorf parent-child class (the Sunflower Children's Garden), and most recently worked in the nursery and aftercare program of the Rudolf Steiner School in New York City. She worked previously with the Maplewood, NJ Waldorf Initiative, the Princeton Waldorf School and the Linden Hill Waldorf School. Heather brings an exceptional background in music. After graduating from Southern Methodist University, she earned a masters degree in flute performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Heather has performed professionally and taught flute for many years in Dallas, San Francisco and the New York Metropolitan Region. She has also completed a portion of the Waldorf music teacher training. We are continuing our preparations for the opening of the school. On June 18, we received final approval from the Zoning Commission for our program. We will make special improvements to convert the Small Parish Hall into a wonderful Waldorf classroom. We will then proceed to furnish and put the finishing touches to the classroom so that it will be ready by early to mid-August when we expect to complete licensing by the State Department of Public Health. We plan to have several events over the summer to further introduce our staff and program, and enable parents to become acquainted and develop the sense of community that will enrich the coming school year. Please keep an eye out for upcoming events.

Our Kindergarten will be open to children from age 3 to 6. In this way we create a home-like atmosphere, where children may learn from the teacher and also have opportunities to learn from each other. It helps to develop strong social skills and cooperation.
