Those in the public school reform movement have
some important things to learn from what Waldorf educators have been
doing for many years. It's an enormously impressive effort toward
quality education, and schools would be well advised to familiarize
themselves with the basic assumptions that underlie the Waldorf
movement.

This exciting beginning is the first phase of the school's long term vision to provide the community with the many benefits that Waldorf Education offers children from early childhood, through the elementary grades and into the high school years. The Clover Hill School Early Childhood Programs in Norwalk will include our popular parent and child class "Honey Bees," a mixed-aged kindergarten for children ages three through six, and an extended day program from 12 - 3 p.m. for children aged three through six. We continue to offer our parent and child class "Honey Bees" in Stamford, CT. Please look for our Classes for Young Children for more information and an application. Waldorf Education Waldorf Education follows a developmental approach that is designed to support and mirror the physical, emotional and intellectual unfolding of the growing child. Fully committed to academic excellence, the Waldorf curriculum strives to harmonize clear thinking with a depth of feeling and active initiative, in order to foster the development of human beings who can fully meet the challenges of the future. In the elementary grades, academic subjects are presented artistically and imaginatively, engaging the child's mind and emotions, and allowing his learning to take hold at a much deeper level than mere factual knowledge. Active learning opportunities provide outlets for lively children and meet a wide variety of learning styles. Enthusiasm for learning is a hallmark of Waldorf Education, virtually eliminating the need for competitive testing. The rigorous assessment of student work is individualized and communicated to parents through conferences and comprehensive narrative reports. Learning is experienced as more than just an accumulation of information - it is a lifelong enterprise of discovery for each child. Admissions Applications for admission to The Clover Hill School are welcomed from families who choose to support the goals of Waldorf Education. Our admissions policy refrains from discrimination of any kind. Interested persons are encouraged to contact the school to inquire about upcoming events and opportunities to visit the school. judgment in relation to life and living. For only such awakening can
lead to true freedom. The Clover Hill School is committed to the proven ideals and methods of Waldorf Education, inspired by Rudolf Steiner. The school is devoted to the protection of childhood and to providing an education that serves the needs of the developing human being. We offer a classical education that addresses the whole child, including the head, the heart and the hands. Our educational approach develops the capacities needed to thrive in our modern world, including skillful hands, moral courage and independent thinking. We recognize each child as a being of body, soul and spirit. With this in mind, the school aims to inspire a love of learning, so that each student is thoroughly academically prepared for his or her next steps in life and is also given opportunities for the unfolding of unique gifts. As educators, we measure our success on more than what students know or can do now. We are interested in how they continue to develop throughout their lives. Through a common understanding of all members of our school community, we can best meet the needs of the growing child. Our school provides ongoing opportunities for adult education, including parent workshops, public lectures, study groups and teacher development programs. An active community surrounds and supports the families of the school. Our school is committed to fostering and enriching this community through public events, community outreach and the celebration of seasonal festivals. Through all aspects of its mission, the school aims to serve the lower Fairfield and surrounding Westchester County areas by being an active and responsible contributor to the community at large. |
